On Friday, 22 November, MEP Zofija Mazej Kukovič, attended conversation at Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia with representatives of the Chamber. They want more frequent cooperation and exchange of opinions, as they stressed that economy is much more European-oriented than other activities.
MEP Zofija Mazej Kukovič is happy about the initiatives for closer cooperation between Chamber of Commerce and MEPs. “I am pleased that I can add work in the political field to my experiences from economy. But it is difficult to add if we don’t receive inputs and information from Slovenia. In European parliament and European culture emphasis on entrepreneurship and economy is huge, especially in our political group (EPP). The key question is reindustrialization. Directive is in the making, which drives the industry forward. By 2020, the share of European GDP generated by industry should increase from current 16 % to 20 %. It is essential to establish a more innovative approach, to consume fewer resources for more products. This is a big challenge. Of course, there is timeless dilemma between the needs of industry, which provides more workplaces and healthy environment. All directives are dealing also with health and environment. In the budget, which we accepted this week, many things are very positive for Slovenia, particularly those regarding rural development and entrepreneurship. A lot can be done from this. Development programme Horizon 2020 call for connection and Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia is the one that can link companies, technology platforms and clusters among themselves. Connecting science and business is essential.”
One of important questions is also how small and medium-size businesses can be prepared for globalization. Therefore, creation of European networks is very intense and important. Many times Slovenian economy doesn’t use knowledge and experiences, which Europe in some areas already has. Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia is working on establishing cooperation with India and MEP Zofija Mazej Kukovič, as a member of Delegation for relations with India, is familiar with situation. There are therefore many opportunities for better cooperation.
At the end MEP Zofija Mazej Kukovič emphasized that “principle of introducing new taxes is not the only way. Entrepreneurial boiling is necessary. What is concerning is, that there is less and less courage.”
