“Today we became younger”
Former MEPs study day fills the hall. The front row faces the people with many years of political experience, and behind us are a multitude of students from all over the world. The theme of the future of Europe represents life in a family of European nations in the coming decades. Young people are extremely interested listeners and also co-creators of the discussion. Their fingers easily transmit messages to social media. This time, we too are joining the digital world of social media on behalf of our association. For some, the routine, for others, is a daily routine, but most of them are awe-inspiring! We and young students are united by a desire for a united Europe, a Europe of peace, a healthy environment and a decent standard.
For the last term, the European Parliament has passed most legislation related to the digital single market in the European Union. It has also become one of three priorities put forward by the first female President of the European Commission, Ursula van der Layen.
In our association, we have set ourselves the goal of digital communication and motivating all members, including those of venerable years, to become closer to young people and to all European citizens.
Management Committe headed by President Dr. Pöttering supports the development of modern communications, and the Secretariat provides technical support and content organization.
In April 2019 I was elected to the MC at the FMA Assembly as a former MEP from Slovenia. By sharing responsibility, I began co-creating the digital communications world. For many, this is a new challenge, but
lifelong learning is the path to new knowledge, to empowerment, and to new friendships through invisible Internet connections.
Digitization is touching everyone sooner or later. Young people are already cradled with this knowledge, so it is an opportunity to learn from them, from our children and our grandchildren. Intensified entry into the digital world can be ethically applied;
– Strengthens intergenerational cohesion and reduces distance between older and younger generation
Young people are a strong glue to the European Nations, especially through the Erasmus program and the use of digitalisation. We can be their stronger ally if we follow their trends in the field of digital communication more intensively.
– Digital world would enables the values of the European Union to be promoted intensively and to bring together people of different European nations.
With a fresh approach, the new FMA website will give us access to public information and information that is accessible only to us, FMA members, on the Intranet. We would visit this site as many times as possible www.formermembers.europa.eu and we would be better acquainted with current European policies, our events and of course, the individual contributions that each of us can make. Even Twitter and Facebook can serve the same purpose when used appropriately.
-Digital world would provide more attractive everyday life, access and sharing of information and personal experiences.
If in my youth I had the opportunity to study remotely from an alpine village in Slovenia, so that my parents could ever get help through telemedicine, so I could buy tickets to a Beatles concert in London remotely and talk through skaypa with my friends beyond the iron curtain … I could only dream of it in my own way. Today, all this is possible for us, and we just need more effort to improve digital literacy than our young people. It’s worth a try. A decisive step was made during our study days.
Today we became younger!
